Will I live to be 100 and you?
What am I doing to live to be 100? It’s simple and you can do it too. I accept the laws of physics and acknowledge that lifespan is about 80% determined by genetics. Even so, I am convinced that we can live to be 100. I’ll share a few tips on how I approach it myself.
To this day, at the age of 50, I have no health problems. I visit the doctor only for preventive check-ups a kind of male MOT inspection :-).
Genetics determines what your body is built for and what predispositions you have.
I recommend taking a genetic test. These are offered by laboratories both in the Czech Republic and abroad and cost up to CZK 10,000. For me, it was a fundamental step in understanding my body and confirming what I should not be doing. You’ll learn what you’re predisposed to in several areas, such as cancer risk, food metabolism (what doesn’t suit you), which sports you should or shouldn’t do, and more. After my father’s death he fought lymphatic cancer for 18 years I was relieved to learn that I have no genetic predisposition to any type of cancer. It also confirmed that I process dairy products very well and that I really shouldn’t torture myself by running. My body is not built for endurance sports but for strength-based activities. Do you know how relieved I felt not having to feel awkward as the only man in his fifties on the street who doesn’t run? So start with a test.
Live for joy
I live actively in areas that bring me joy and that my body is built for. I ride road motorcycles, play golf, and truly enjoy drinking wine with friends at least once a week during the season. I live life to the fullest, but I’m careful never to cross the line, such as getting into dangerous situations on a motorcycle where I don’t have full control. I drink wine only in amounts that don’t make me feel unwell.
Stay positive
My mindset is positive. I’ve always seen the glass as half full rather than half empty. In the past, I worried a lot about what people thought of me and what they said about me whether justified or not. I often carried out endless internal dialogues with them, defending my position in my head. That was extremely draining. I eventually attended an eight-day intensive training where I first understood what the reactive mind is and how it influences people’s behavior. Much of the time, we practiced uncomfortable situations in pairs and learned how to handle them. Today I know that what others say about you and how they treat you is usually a reflection of their own problems and has nothing to do with you. Do you know how much calmer and more balanced I am today? I truly wish you the same.
It is what it is
Take life as it comes and simplify it where possible sometimes it’s simply fate. I don’t avoid responsibility, but many things truly cannot be influenced by human effort. We must realize that we cannot save the whole world, and if someone doesn’t want help, you can’t help them. It’s even more painful when that person is someone close to you.
One more recommendation
In conclusion, I have one interesting tip that will clear your mind and help you become much more mentally balanced. It’s called “closing cycles.” Do you know that feeling when you’re dealing with many things at once and your head feels like it’s buzzing, as if everything is too much? You need to handle things separately and close them simply finish one task before starting another. If you can’t finish something today, schedule when you will and let it go. You’ll see it in your calendar in time, don’t worry. Not having too many unfinished tasks at once leads to much greater mental calm.
And that’s my guide to living to 100: being much more mentally at ease, staying positive, enjoying the fact that you’re here, and firmly believing that you’ll reach 100 with ease. I’m truly looking forward to my next 50 years!
