How I decide what to devote my time to
Imagine dynamics as circles ranging from the smallest to the largest. Circles with you at their centre. You start with the smallest circle, which is yourself. The next larger circle is your family, the partnership in which you live. The next is the community. Examples include friends, work, neighbours, associations, masterminds, and sports clubs. An even larger circle is everything alive around you. These are not only your pets at home, but also the deer you see in the field or the hare that runs across the meadow. Now take a breath and imagine everything inanimate around you. I mean things you use to live or things that surround you, such as mountains and rocks. I perceive other dynamics as well, but that’s a topic for another time and requires more imagination.
Why are dynamics important to me? They give me self-reflection on whether I am working on the right projects. My life goal is to devote my time to activities and projects that have the greatest impact. For me, that means impacting as many dynamics as possible. But that impact must always come from the centre out. In other words, the project must have a positive impact on me first and foremost. It sounds selfish, but it’s not. If I’m doing something that doesn’t primarily affect me, how can I persevere in the activity? Where should I look for inner motivation? I say, if I am not happy and satisfied myself, how can I spread happiness, help, and satisfaction to others? I also believe that being healthy, satisfied, and happy is our primary personal responsibility. But more on responsibility another time. It is a much broader topic.
When deciding on a new project or activity, I ask myself: how will it help me personally, how will it help my family, how will it help my community, and so on. My goal is to devote my time to areas where my activity has the greatest positive impact, and only when it affects as many dynamics as possible. I want to know how I contribute and how I improve them. Thanks to this way of thinking, I set the conditions for the project myself and what it must include. This is also because I realize that time is the only commodity that is limited and closely connected to my existence and mission in this world. I have to use it carefully. For me, carefully means responsibly.
Dynamics are just as important in my investing. My investments must positively impact as many dynamics as possible.
